An important airfield construction project at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport is underway as crews perform a full rehabilitation of Runway 10-28.
Runway 10-28, the longest runway at BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport, will be temporarily closed from July 22 through October 8 in order to accommodate the work. This runway rehabilitation project will include milling and overlay of existing runway asphalt pavement of the full length of Runway 10-28, plus the intersection with Runway 15R-33L. In addition, the project will enable selective grade correction to improve drainage along Runway 10-28 and include the installation of new LED in-pavement lighting.
A full closure of the intersection of Runways 10-28 and 15R-33L will take place 6 nights a week (no intersection work on Sunday nights/Monday mornings) from August 4 through October 7. We have worked extensively with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), our airline partners and other stakeholders to ensure flight schedules are modified to accommodate this vital construction work.
