BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport Welcomes JetBlue Airways With Inaugural Flight and New Nonstop Service

Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport today celebrated the arrival of JetBlue Airways with the launch of its inaugural flight, providing travelers with new nonstop access to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Airport officials and airline representatives marked the milestone with a gate celebration before passengers boarded the first departure.

“We are excited to welcome JetBlue back as a returning airline partner,” said Shannetta Griffin, Executive Director/CEO of BWI Thurgood Marshall Airport. “This air service offers new travel opportunities for our passengers and showcases the strength of our market. We look forward to working with JetBlue as it grows its service and provides customers with more travel choices.”

The new service from JetBlue further strengthens BWI Marshall Airport’s role as a key transportation gateway and economic development engine for the State of Maryland and the National Capital region. With three flights per day between BWI Marshall and Fort Lauderdale, the new route will also provide passengers with convenient connections throughout the JetBlue network. The airline will add service between BWI Marshall and San Juan, Puerto Rico beginning November 2, 2026. JetBlue will utilize A320 aircraft on its new BWI Marshall routes.

BWI Airport secures $62.4 million for runway upgrades in national infrastructure push

July 4, 2026- BWI is set to receive a $62.4 million grant after the Trump Administration announced a series of upgrades to airports across the U.S on Thursday.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy made the announcement that 46 states would receive investments to rehabilitate and upgrade their airports ahead of the Fourth of July holiday weekend.

“What better way to celebrate America than investing in its future,” Duffy said in a statement issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation. “We’re ushering in the Golden Age of Transportation and rebuilding our airport infrastructure is critical to making that vision a reality.”

According to the U.S. DOT, BWI Airport was awarded $62.4 million for runway and runway lighting rehabilitation.
