Soundoff! | Larry Whitley

Making sure that the 56,000 people who work on Fort Meade and Fort Meade residents can access the transportation modes they need, Anne Arundel County and the Central Maryland Regional Transit Authority are stepping up.

Coordinating with Lt. Col. Allan Floyd, deputy garrison commander for transformation, and other interested tenant organizations, the RTA will begin providing bus service from the Odenton MARC station to points on Fort Meade starting Sept. 24.

Fort Meade employees will have the new public transportation option to travel between the Odenton MARC station and locations on Fort Meade on a free basis to ascertain use levels before regular fares on the route begin, said RTA officials.

From Sept. 24 to Oct. 14, individuals needing transportation can ride the Route 504 FGGM/Odenton MARC bus at no charge. After that, regular fares cost $2 per trip; $15 for a 10-ride ticket booklet; and $40 for a monthly pass.

Seniors ages 60 and older and persons with a disability ride free.

The Regional Transit Authority Route 504 FGGM/Odenton MARC bus will depart the Odenton MARC station roughly every 40 minutes in the morning and afternoon.

The bus will make stops on Fort Meade at the following loctions: Reese Road gate, the Defense Information Systems Agency headquarters, Candlewood Suites hotel, Garrison Headquarters/Post Theater, Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center and the Adjudication Center.

The Route 504 FGGM/Odenton MARC bus will replace the Fort Meade MARC shuttle bus by the end of September.

The new 504 RTA Route 504 begins its daily route runs at 6:24 a.m., about every 40 minutes, until 9:03 a.m. The 504 begins its afternoon runs at 2:15 p.m. and ends at 5:55 p.m.
