Transportation News

The MillsRide Shuttle is Expanding!

As recipient of a grant from the Anne Arundel County Local Development Council, the Partnership oversees the MillsRide Shuttle: a FREE shuttle service for employees of the Arundel Mills Mall and Live! Casino & Hotel that connects homebound 2nd shift and work-bound 3rd shift employees to and from the Light Rail Cromwell Station from 9:20pm until Midnight (8:20pm, on Sundays & Major Holidays) 365 days a year.

Beginning in July of 2018, the Partnership is pleased to announce a new shuttle endeavor funded by the LDC! Anne Arundel County Division of Transportation will join us in offering a FREE shuttle to mall and casino employees, members of the community, and travelers, connecting them to the airport, light rail, and Arundel Mills commercial district.

Meet the Committee Chairs

Gail Sanders | Tower Federal Credit Union (Membership Committee)

Gail Sanders is Manager of Business Development at Tower Federal Credit Union. In this role, she is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to expand Tower’s field of membership through the addition of new businesses and associations. Gail is responsible for establishing and managing cooperative relationships with corporate executive level decision makers, community organization leaders and external stakeholders. Prior to her coming to Tower, she has worked at the senior level of management in financial services and nonprofit and educational organizations. She has received a variety of awards and recognition. Among them, she was selected as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women in 1998, 2000 and 2011 which resulted in her being inducted in to their Circle of Excellence.

Trent Newman | Bank of America Merrill Lynch (Young Professionals Group)

Trent Newman is a Relationship Manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in Columbia, Maryland. Trent works with companies on credit, treasury, cash management solutions, FX, and other financial needs.

Trent & his team work with companies in many different industries, including retailers, wholesalers, manufacturers, government contractors, logistics and transportation providers, professional services, healthcare, and non-profit organizations. 

Trent has a MBA & Bachelors in Political Science, in addition to decade of experience in finance and relationship management. Prior to joining Bank of America, he held Client Experience, Program Management, Strategic Development, and Business Controls leadership positions with Citibank. 

Originally from Tennessee, Trent has spent time in Los Angeles, St. Louis, & now lives in Annapolis, MD with his wife & two young children. The family enjoys soccer, baseball, and spending as much time on or near the water as possible. Trent regularly has community involvement with Habitat for Humanity, March of Dimes, and is always looking for ways to help shelter animals.

Michael Milstein | SIEGELLAW (Young Professionals Group)

Michael Milstein is a seasoned family law litigator and partner at SIEGELLAW, a preeminent family law litigation firm located in Ellicott City, Maryland. He handles complex cases in all areas of family law including divorce, custody, and high-asset property issues. Michael prides himself on helping his clients' achieve their goals while reducing the stress of their situations. 

Michael is active in his community. He serves on the Howard County Public School System's Calendar Committee and the Jewish Federation of Howard County's OxyGEN Committee, and he is the chair of the Maple Lawn Covenants Committee. 

Michael grew up in Olney, Maryland and earned his B.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park, and his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law. He currently lives in Fulton, Maryland with his wife and three children, who are dedicated Redskins, Orioles, and Terps fans.

Jeff Sprinkle | Y in Central Maryland (Nonprofit Resource Roundtable)

As Chief Philanthropy Officer, Jeff leads the Association's efforts to engage the community in its charitable mission. Prior to this role, Jeff served as the Executive Center Director for the Hill Y in Westminster, where he increased membership and community financial support. 

Jeff came to the Y after a highly successful career in the private sector. He had 33 years of progressive leadership experience with Random House, Inc. beginning as a customer service management trainee until his last position there as the Vice President of Distribution and Administration. In addition to his management duties at Random House, Jeff chaired their United Way campaign, served as company spokesperson to local community and media, and was Random House Community Ambassador for business and charitable endeavors.

Jeff has fostered many collaborative working relationships with businesses and community volunteer organizations within Carroll County and the State of Maryland, including Carroll Community College, Carroll County Department of Economic Development and Carroll County General Hospital, where in 2002, he was chair of the hospital's annual golf classic fundraiser. 

Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Mt. Saint Mary's College. He has lived in Carroll County his entire life where he lives with his wife. He has a son and two daughters.

Howard County Veterans and Military Families Resource Fair

 

Dea Educational Foundation: Understanding the Opioid epidemic

Discussion topics will include the Governor’s Opioid Operational Command Center, and how it provides not only an over-arching picture of Maryland’s Heroin and Opioid crisis, but builds upon ongoing community-based approaches by increasing collaboration between state and local public health, human services, education, and public safety entities to address this crisis.

The goal of the event is to create an ongoing momentum targeted at the business community, but benefitting the entire Baltimore area. We will discuss establishing a “Business Roundtable” to develop best practices for businesses, as well as provide a mechanism to keep the Baltimore community informed on local drug trafficking and abuse patterns.

The HRSG Summer Intern Placement Program

HR Strategy Group is very excited to announce this program to help place high school graduates and college students in summer internships.

The purpose of the Intern Placement Program is to assist high school graduates and college students in obtaining meaningful summer internships, while providing our clients with entry-level assistance from bright and motivated young professionals. These are students we know and trust, and who have interests in a wide variety of professional areas, such as Business and Marketing, Accounting, Information Technology, Engineering, and Foundation and Community Organization work.

WeWork at the University of Maryland's Discovery District

WeWork is enrolling at the University of Maryland, in a manner of speaking.

The popular co-working space provider has reached a deal to open its first location on a college campus at Maryland's flagship university in College Park. The new site, which will also be WeWork’s first in Maryland, will have more 300 desks as well as conference rooms and other communal areas. It is slated to open this fall next to the new Hotel at the University of Maryland.

WeWork will be moving into a former mechanical shop building that the university previously agreed to lease to a partnership including Chesapeake Realty Partners and War Horse LLC, a company founded by former Under Armour executive Scott Plank. It will lease the entire 20,000-square-foot, two-story red brick building from that partnership. The WBJ previously reported exclusively in June that the deal was in the works.

The new location at 7761 Greenhouse Road is in the university's Discovery District, intended to be a destination for startups and established companies to grow their businesses. Ken Ulman, UMD's chief strategy officer for economic development, said he views WeWork's decision to open its first college campus location at UMD as a strong endorsement of the university's efforts to embrace technology and innovation.

"It just sends a really important message that we’ve got this great culture of innovation," Ulman said. "It sends a really powerful message to the region that there's a reason that WeWork chose to put its first location in the state of Maryland in College Park. It’s a place that, until recently, wasn’t necessarily the first place that a dynamic company would think to locate."

Military Corp Career Connect (C3) Advisory Board

The Fort Meade Alliance and Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation have partnered to establish the Military Corp Career Connect (C3) Advisory Board! The Advisory Board will focus on transitioning military, active duty spouses and recently separated veterans who are seeking employment and/or under-employed.
